Hi,
first, sorry for using English, my written Norwegian is not very good. You can however reply using Norwegian. I´m having a 500 liters aqua tank build for me, where I plan to keep marine life picked up from the sea around Iceland. This is a portable tank which I will take with me when introducing diving. Since I don´t have any experience I need some information, if you could be so kind giving me few minutes of your time. First, I need a water chiller, I have been looking into the Aquamedic Titan series and my main question here is how powerful I should get. The Titan 500 chiller is the one for this sized tank regarding to the manufacturer, but since I need to cool my tank down to maybe 5°C if possible and I will be transferring the tank quite much (not connected) should I get a bigger one. Is there something that says I can´t connect a bigger one to such a tank? What else do I need? A filter? What can you recommend? Where should I get these things, just got a offer from the dealer here in Iceland, they want NOK 20.000 for the Titan 500!! Many thanks in advance:-) |

Choose a chiller that's capacity is twise your tanks size or more.. In this way you can lower tour tanks temperature faster than with a smaller one. Another thinge is that by using a larger chiller the chiller dont need to run at max the whole time. Most of the chillers are ment for use on tropical tanks, and I suspect their sizing is some what flavourd by that.
Chillers are expensive but check http://www.saltvandsudtyr.dk http://korallrevet.no Both of them should be able to sell you the Titan 1500 for less then NOK 20.000 You might want to add some circulation pumps to your aquarium as well. A skimmer could be nice but if you change water once a week I think you wont need one. How does your portable tank look like ? Got any pictures ?

Jeg har sett en diy-kjøler hvorav man sender returvannet til sumpen via et kjøleskap. Fungerte fint i flere år i følge eier.

Many thanks for your help. So I think I will just go for the Titan 2000 to make sure I have enough power to get the temperatures I wish.
I can not send pictures at this time since it´s not ready yet. Actually it´s still on the drawing board since I need information on how much space the chiller and filters will take. Can you recommend a filter system for me? A skimmer, what´s that? If I have such a powerful cooler, do I need a circulation pump? I remember there is always a air pump in aquariums, is that needed? Again, many thanks for your help:-) |

A Protein skimmer is a device that removes waste and proteins from the water. The protein skimmer is in some way a filter.
If you want to use a filter I would recommend Fluval or Eheim filters. If you change approx 20L of your water in your tank, I am pretty shure you wont need a skimmer and a filter. If you have enough circulation in your tank you don't need an air pump since the circulation will give the animals in your tank enough oxygen. You will not do anything wrong by using both a circulation pump and a air pump. When you transport the fish/tank I reckon that a bumpy road will provide the fish with enough O2 to survive.. If they are dizzy when You arrive you can boost them with 5-10 min of EAN32 or higher on a slow flow.

Many thanks again-)
It might be smart to have a small tank and a regulator (SCUBA 1. stage) to use during transportation. I do have a Nitrox compressor so using EAN32 is not a problem for me. So you don´t think I need any filter, so all I really need to buy is the water cooler which I have now decided I will get the Titon 2000. |
